CS starts visit to Beijing (with photos)
****************************************

The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, today (September 23) started her visit to Beijing and met Hong Kong people at the Office of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in Beijing in the evening.

Mrs Lam met some 50 Hong Kong people who work or study in Beijing, including students, business people in the industrial and commercial sectors, and professionals. The exchange session enabled Mrs Lam to better understand the situation of Hong Kong people in Mainland.

Mrs Lam said, "In recent years, more and more Hong Kong people, regardless of their age and background, choose to settle on the Mainland for business, work, studies or retirement. The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government is concerned about their needs and hopes to enhance support and ancillary services. As stated in the Chief Executive's manifesto, the Government will collect information on Hong Kong in Mainland and provide them with support and ancillary services as appropriate. The exchange session offers me an opportunity to talk face to face to Hong Kong people in Beijing, thus enabling me to better understand their needs."

Tomorrow (September 24), Mrs Lam will continue her visit programme by paying courtesy calls on the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Health, and the Beijing Municipal Government.
