Piotr Anderszewski to return to HK for piano recital
****************************************************

In a follow-up to his well-received Hong Kong recital in 2010, the internationally renowned Polish pianist Piotr Anderszewski will give his second recital in Hong Kong in November to perform a selection of compositions by Bach and Schumann.

The specially conceived programme will feature two large-scale "English Suites" by Bach - "English Suite No.3 in G Minor, BWV808" and "English Suite No.6 in D Minor, BWV811", and the two suites will frame Schumann's masterpiece "Fantasie in C, Op.17". The recital will be held at 8pm on November 19 (Monday) at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong City Hall.

Regarded as one of the outstanding pianists of his generation, Piotr Anderszewski is widely recognised for his intensity and the originality of his interpretations. Anderszewski has given recitals at major concert venues around the world and has collaborated with many prestigious ensembles, including the Scottish Chamber Orchestra; the Berlin Philharmonic; the Boston, Chicago and London symphony orchestras; the Philadelphia Orchestra; and the Orchestra of the Royal Concertgebouw.

Throughout his career Anderszewski has been the winner of several high-profile awards including, in 2002, the prestigious Gilmore Artist Award, given every four years to a pianist of exceptional talent. He has built up an impressive discography over the years. His much-praised recording of Beethoven's "Diablelli Variations" was made into an award-winning documentary filmed by Bruno Monsaingeon in 2001. His discography also includes a Grammy-nominated CD of Bach's "Partitas 1, 3 and 6" and a critically acclaimed disc of works by Chopin. His disc of Szymanowski's solo piano works was met with a similarly glowing critical response and went on to receive the Classic FM Gramophone Award for best instrumental disc in 2006. Furthermore, Anderszewski's most recent recording devoted to solo works by Schumann won an ECHO Klassik award in 2011 and two BBC Music Magazine awards in 2012, including Recording of the Year. "Schumann playing of the highest class ... Bewitchingly compelling," noted the BBC Music Magazine in an album review.
