The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The Hospital Authority (HA) today (September 13) welcomed the Government's reappointment of Mr Anthony Wu Ting-yuk as Chairman of the HA. The re-appointment will take effect from December 1, 2012 up to November 30, 2013.

Mr Wu said he was honoured to be reappointed and stay on board with the 62,000 professional and dedicated staff members of the HA, which has always been the pride of Hong Kong.

"This reappointment reflects the Government's recognition and appreciation of the HA's work in the past years and I would like to thank all my colleagues in the HA for their unwavering support over the years."

Mr Wu looks forward to working closely with the Food and Health Bureau and the Department of Health, under the new Secretary for Food and Health Dr Ko Wing-man, to continue to enhance our public health services to better serve the people of Hong Kong.

"One of the priority tasks that the HA needs to accomplish is to manage the patient waiting time amid the challenges of the ageing population and the shortfall in medical manpower. Certainly we will continue to find ways to improve the working conditions and environment for our staff. With the unfailing support of our workforce and guidance of the bureau, I am confident that we will continue to rise to the challenges ahead to provide quality medical services to the people of Hong Kong."

In welcoming the reappointment, the HA Chief Executive, Dr Leung Pak-yin, said the HA management team is delighted to learn of Mr Wu's reappointment and the opportunity to sail through the forthcoming challenges under his able leadership as in the past years.

"His visionary leadership, commitment to public service and passion for the people-first culture are well respected by our colleagues from the front line to management, our patients and the community at large."
