CE to attend APEC meeting in Russia

     The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, will leave for Russia in the late evening of September 5 (Wednesday) to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting 2012 and APEC CEO Summit in Vladivostok.

     The theme of this year's meeting is "Integrate to Grow, Innovate to Prosper" with four priorities: trade and investment liberalisation, and regional economic integration; strengthening food security; establishing reliable supply chains; and intensive co-operation to foster innovative growth.

     On September 7, President Hu Jintao will address the APEC CEO Summit, which the Chief Executive will attend. The Chief Executive will also witness the signing of a Free Trade Agreement between Hong Kong and Chile by the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Chile, Mr Alfredo Moreno, at a signing ceremony on the same day.

     The Chief Executive will deliver a speech at the Summit on September 8. He will also attend the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting and meet APEC Business Advisory Council Members on the same day.

     During the APEC meetings, the Chief Executive will meet foreign leaders to exchange views on issues of mutual concern.

     The Chief Executive will depart for Hong Kong in the evening of September 8. During Mr Leung's absence, the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, will be acting Chief Executive.
