The London Olympics' Mainland gold medallists this afternoon (August 25) got up close with the public, sharing their experiences and feelings about the sporting competition at a gala show, the Mainland Olympic Gold Medallists Extravaganza, at the Hong Kong Stadium.
Addressing the show's participants, the Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, on behalf of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and the public, extended his heartfelt gratitude to the Mainland athletes for visiting Hong Kong.
Mr Leung also paid tribute to the Hong Kong athletes for their outstanding performances at the Olympics. He said that the Government would continue to promote sports development through fostering a strong sporting culture, supporting elite sports as well as raising Hong Kong's position as a major location for international sports events.
The Extravaganza was the climax of the three-day visit by the delegation of the London Olympics' Mainland gold medallists. All the London Olympics' Mainland gold medallists took part in today's show. Hong Kong athletes also joined their Mainland counterparts to sing onstage.
While an audience of some 20,000 enjoyed this fabulous show at the Hong Kong Stadium, people at home could also watch the programme live through television broadcast.
The delegation will leave Hong Kong tomorrow (August 26) afternoon.
