Police's operation to combat organised crime
********************************************

Officers of Police Organized Crime and Triad Bureau (OCTB) mounted an anti-triad operation codenamed "Landchaser" on August 11 and yesterday (August 12) to strike two triad societies who were trying to expand their activities.

After in-depth investigations, Police searched 106 locations in Kowloon and New Territories and raided an illegal ˇ§pai kouˇ¨ gambling establishment and an unlicensed bar during the operation mounted on August 11 and yesterday.

Police arrested 70 males and 16 females, aged between 14 and 73, who were suspected to be in connection with a variety of offences including possession of offensive weapons, trafficking in dangerous drugs, operating gambling establishments, selling pseudo liquor and drinking liquor in an unlicensed place and other triad-related offences. Most of the arrested persons were still being detained for further enquiries.

Police seized about $14, 000 cash, some gambling equipment, trace of dangerous drugs and 606 bottles of suspected pseudo liquor during the operation. The total value of the seizure is about $235,000.

Police believes the operation had effectively weakened the triad societies and blocked their sources of income. Police are determined to combat triad society and forbid their expansion.
