Sport For All Day well received
*******************************

Sport For All Day organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) yesterday (August 5) attracted over 210 000 people to join in the free recreation and sports programmes at designated venues in the 18 districts and enjoy the free use of LCSD's leisure facilities for a healthy weekend.

"Over 186 000 people used our free facilities yesterday, an increase of 5.4 per cent compared to that of last year. The majority of the booked facilities not taken up by hirers were reallocated to walk-in applicants on a first-come, first-served basis," a spokesman for the LCSD said today (August 6).

Over 109 000 people enjoyed swimming for free in LCSD's swimming pools yesterday, of which 14 swimming pools reached their maximum capacity during the peak hours in the afternoon.

"It was encouraging to witness high usage of the facilities, particularly the sports arenas. The usage rate of which is almost 97 per cent," the spokesman added.

Meanwhile, over 29 000 people took part in the free recreation and sports programmes held at designated sports centres in 18 districts. These programmes included Olympic-themed activities, exercise demonstrations, parent-child sports programmes, fitness corners and sports play-in activities.

Adopting "Stay Active. Exercise For Half an Hour Daily" as the event slogan, Sport For All Day this year encouraged members of the public to nurture a habit of doing physical activity for at least 30 minutes a day.

Responding to the public's active support for Sport For All Day, the LCSD will continue to promote sport for all in the community, and the benefits of doing exercise regularly for a better life.
