The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The Hospital Authority (HA) today (July 26) announced the appointment of Dr Eric Cheung Fuk-chi as the Hospital Chief Executive (HCE) of Castle Peak Hospital and Siu Lam Hospital with immediate effect and the retirement of Dr Lee Tsun-woon, HCE of Pok Oi Hospital (POH), with effect from October 15, 2012. Open recruitment for the position of HCE (POH) will commence in due course.

Dr Cheung succeeded Dr Chung Kin-lai, who has taken up the position of Chief Manager (Integrated Care Programs) in the HA Head Office since May 1, 2012. Dr Cheung is a specialist in psychiatry. He is currently the Clinical Stream Coordinator (Mental Health) and Consultant in Psychiatry of the New Territories West Cluster (NTWC). Dr Cheung was instrumental in the development of community psychiatry service in the NTWC. He successfully led the revamp and development of a comprehensive community mental health team comprising nurses, occupational therapists and social workers capable of providing multifaceted support to a large number of patients in the community.

Dr Cheung has also played key roles in the Hong Kong College of Psychiatrists, the HA Central Coordinating Committee in Psychiatry and the Working Group on Mental Health Services of the Food and Health Bureau in shaping the development of mental health services in Hong Kong.

Dr Lee joined the HA in 1994 and assumed the position of HCE (POH) in May 2006. Owing to personal reasons, Dr Lee applied for early retirement with effect from October 15, 2012, and the application has been approved.

The HA Chief Executive, Dr Leung Pak-yin, congratulated Dr Cheung on his new appointment and welcomed Dr Chung to the HA Head Office management team. He also extended his sincere gratitude to Dr Lee for his valuable contribution to health-care services development in the NTWC in the past years and wished him all the best in his new endeavours.
