Mainland and Hong Kong ICT Industry Innovation and Entrepreneurship Symposium (with photos)

     The Mainland and Hong Kong Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Industry Innovation and Entrepreneurship Symposium was held today (July 17) and attended by about 400 industry players from the Mainland and Hong Kong.

     The Symposium was co-organised by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government and the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST). It aims to explore the trends and prospects of the ICT industry as well as seeking collaboration opportunities between the Mainland and Hong Kong.

     Officiating at and addressing the Symposium were the Vice Minister, MIIT, Mr Yang Xueshan; the Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Communications and Technology), Ms Elizabeth Tse; the Executive Secretary, CAST, Mr Zhang Qin; the Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR, Ms Yin Xiaojing; and Legislative Council Member, Mr Samson Tam.

     The symposium featured two sessions of keynote address. In the first session, government officials from the Mainland and Hong Kong elaborated on the trends and prospects of the ICT industry. The Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Communications and Technology), Ms Elizabeth Tse, delivered a keynote speech on the way forward for ICT industry innovation. Other speakers included the Director General, Department of Information Technology, MIIT, Mr Ding Wenwu; Deputy Director General, Department of Science and Technology, MIIT, Mr Li Li; Deputy Director General, Department of Software and Information Service, MIIT, Mr Chen Ying; Director, Department of Telecommunication Development, MIIT, Mr Wang Peng; Deputy Director-General, Department of High and New Technology Development and Industrialization, MOST, Mr Yang Xianwu; and Deputy Director General, Department of Society and Academic Affairs, CAST, Mr Liu Xingping.

     In the second session, industry leaders shared their views and analysis on entrepreneurship for the ICT industry. The speakers were from renowned enterprises of the two places, including Lenovo Group, Techtronic Industries Co Ltd, BOE Technology Group Co Ltd, NetEase Inc, Inspur Group and Tencent Inc.

     After the keynote sessions a round-table seminar was hosted by the Founder cum Director of iASPEC Technologies Limited, Dr Wong Chung-kiu, with participants from Joyque Information Industry Group, Huawei Technologies Co Ltd, Beijing Shengsou Technology Co Ltd, Hong Kong Cyberport and Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks. They had in-depth discussion and exchanges on collaboration between ICT enterprises in the Mainland and Hong Kong.

     The inauguration ceremony of the Hong Kong/Guangdong Expert Committee on Cloud Computing Services and Standards was also held during the Symposium. The Government Chief Information Officer, Mr Daniel Lai, and Deputy Director-General of the Economic and Information Commission of Guangdong Province, Dr Zou Sheng, presented appointment certificates to 18 cloud computing experts from the two places. The committee was set up to enhance co-operation between Guangdong and Hong Kong in promoting the development of cloud computing and formulation of relevant standards and practices.
