***********************************************************

Sponsored by the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce and co-ordinated by the Home Affairs Bureau, the "Fireworks Display to Celebrate the 15th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region" is scheduled to be held on July 1 (Sunday) at 8pm over Victoria Harbour.

A total of 50,000 firing shells will be discharged in the display from five barges in a 23-minute extravaganza consisting of nine scenes.

Highlights of the fireworks display will include the English letters "HK" and the number 15 in Chinese numerals in the first scene, to mark the celebration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region's 15th anniversary, while colourful fireworks of flowers in the fifth scene will symbolise the joy of reunion. The fireworks display will reach its climax in the last scene with fast and rhythmic firing of shells in gorgeous colours, wishing Hong Kong prosperity.

In addition, pyrotechnics on rooftops of nine commercial buildings on Hong Kong Island will be arranged to add to the overall visual effect.

The display can be seen from many vantage points on both sides of the harbour, including Tsim Sha Tsui, the Mid-levels, Central District, Wan Chai, Causeway Bay and the Hung Hom Bypass.

To bring their enjoyment to the full, viewers are invited to tune in to Radio Television Hong Kong Radio Four (FM 97.6 to 98.9) for synchronised music.

People are urged to help keep public areas clean and to show respect for public property. They are also urged to show consideration in order to make the event a safe one.
