Film Development Fund continues to support local film productions
******************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Film Development Council:

The local gala premiere of the film "The Bounty" will be staged this evening (June 20). This is the 13th film financed by the Film Development Fund (FDF) to be screened in Hong Kong. The estimated production budget for the film was $13.02 million and the amount of government finance was $2.60 million.

The film features the story of a former police officer who believes that police remuneration is no match for bounty. During a hunt, he meets some simple-minded villagers who change his desire for money.

The Secretary-General of the Film Development Council, Mr Wellington Fung, who will attend the premiere, said, "'The Bounty' is the first feature-length film directed by experienced scriptwriter, Mr Fung Chih-chiang. The leading actor and actress, Mr Chapman To and Ms Fiona Sit, are new generation comedians. The film is a typical Hong Kong style comedy. The director makes use of seemingly meaningless languages in the film and it fully reflects the cultural characteristics of Hong Kong comedies. I believe it will appeal to the local audience.

"We will continue to encourage production of more quality films of new genres and to help nurture talent for the film sector through the FDF," he added.

Since the Government injected $300 million into the FDF and expanded its scope to finance small-to-medium budget film productions in October 2007, the financing scheme has approved 22 applications involving total funding of $58.02 million.
