Legal delegation visits Guangdong
*********************************

The Department of Justice (DOJ) will lead a delegation to Guangdong tomorrow (June 20) to promote Hong Kong's legal and arbitration services as well as the next Hong Kong Legal Services Forum, which will be held in Guangzhou on September 13.

Entitled "Hong Kong Legal Services - Think Global, Think Hong Kong", the forum is part of the department's ongoing efforts to reinforce Hong Kong's role as one of the leading international legal services and dispute resolution centres in the Asia Pacific.

Veteran lawyers will speak on legal aspects of international investment, practical legal advice on fund raising and intellectual property protection, as well as the resolution of cross-boundary commercial disputes and the efficient resolution of disputes through international arbitration.

The delegation will meet government officials and representatives of legal and arbitral bodies during the two-day visit covering Guangzhou, Foshan and Dongguan.  Leading the delegation, the DOJ's Deputy Solicitor General, Mr Peter Wong, said, "With the rise of China as the world's key economic powerhouse and its increasingly outward-looking enterprises, there has been a significant upsurge in demand for legal and arbitration services in the Mainland and for Mainland enterprises.

"Hong Kong is well-placed to share its experience with the corporate and legal sectors in the Mainland," he said.

Apart from government lawyers, the delegation also comprises representatives of the Law Society of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Bar Association, the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, the Secretariat of the International Chamber of Commerce International Court of Arbitration - Asia Office, and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. These organisations are co-organisers of the forum.

Another visit to Shenzhen, Jiangmen and Zhongshan will be conducted on June 25 and 26 for the same purposes.

Details of the forum are available at www.doj.gov.hk/legalservicesforum2012/.
