Uploading of conditions imposed on public order events onto Police website
************************************************************

Police will upload the conditions imposed in respect of notifiable public order events notified under the Public Order Ordinance (Cap. 245) onto its website (www.police.gov.hk) starting from next Monday (June 11) in order to provide more information to the public who intend to join the events and enhance the transparency of the processing of public order events.

ˇ§Police respect the rights of individuals to express their views and will facilitate all peaceful public order events,ˇ¨ a Police spokesman said.

ˇ§Posting more information about public order events on the Police website enhances the transparency of the processing of public order events and improves our service quality.

ˇ§Intended participants will be able to have access to the conditions that have been imposed by the Force on individual events. This will help minimise misunderstanding between the participants and Police, and enhance our effectiveness in facilitating peaceful and orderly public order events.ˇ¨

At present, the webpage of notified public order event information bulletin already provides information including the date, time, event, route/location and road closure/diversion. With effect from June 11, the new webpage titled ˇ§Notification of Public Meeting/Notification of Public Processionˇ¨ will display additional information on the organiser and purpose of individual event, as well as the conditions imposed by the Force for the sake of public safety and public order.

In addition, the webpage will contain general information for public meetings or public processions. For instance, according to the Public Order Ordinance, the organisers are required to notify the Commissioner of Police in writing of their intention to hold a public order event not later than seven days prior to the event. It will also list out the legal basis for imposing conditions by the Commissioner of Police on public order events and the appeal mechanism.

ˇ§It is hoped that by providing more information about public order events to the participants, co-operation can be strengthened, thereby facilitating the peaceful and orderly conduct of the events,ˇ¨ the spokesman said.
