***************************************

A Hong Kong information and communications technology (ICT) delegation will visit Beijing from today (May 29) to June 1 to attend the 16th International Soft China (ISC) Expo and promote ICT co-operation between the Mainland and Hong Kong.

The delegation is led by the Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Communications and Technology), Ms Elizabeth Tse, and the Government Chief Information Officer, Mr Daniel Lai. It comprises some 70 members, including representatives from the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO), Hong Kong Pavilion exhibitors and forum speakers, Hong Kong ICT Awards winners, incubatees of Cyberport's incubation programmes, and representatives from the ICT industry.

The ISC is organised by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs and the People's Government of Beijing Municipality. It is the largest annual national software trade show and will be held between May 31 and June 2. The delegation will attend the opening ceremony of the ISC on May 31.

A Hong Kong Pavilion will be set up at the ISC, featuring a mini stage and two thematic zones displaying award winning products and digital innovation. Quality products of Hong Kong enterprises, including software products awarded in the China Outstanding Software Product Awards (COSPA) election, will be showcased in an innovative, diversified and interactive fashion. The COSPA election is an annual national software product assessment event. Awarded products will be recommended for use by government departments, state-owned enterprises and other enterprises. In the past three years, a total of 28 software products developed by companies registered in Hong Kong received such awards.

During the ISC, the OGCIO and MIIT will also co-organise the China International Cloud Computing Service Innovation Forum at the ISC. The forum will bring together experts and industry elites for experience sharing and exploring co-operation opportunities in the area of cloud computing. Mr Lai will speak at the opening ceremony of the forum on June 1.

While in Beijing, the delegation will meet with the Director-General of the Department of Software and Information Service of the MIIT. Ms Tse will also take the opportunity to meet with the MIIT officials to discuss ICT co-operation opportunities between the Mainland and Hong Kong.

The delegation will return to Hong Kong on June 2.
