Man jailed for dangerous driving

     A 24-year-old man was sentenced to four years and 10 months¡¦ imprisonment and disqualified from driving for six years at the District Court today (May 25) for various offences including dangerous driving.

     The Court heard that an officer of Enforcement and Control Division of New Territories North Region intercepted and summoned a man who talked on phone while driving a private car at Shap Pat Heung interchange, Yuen Long in the afternoon of August 10, 2011.

     It was revealed that the driver drove his vehicle away and hit the police officer. The driver drove his vehicle furiously across Yuen Long and Tuen Mun districts and bumped onto a minibus, a bus and four private cars. The vehicle later knocked down another police officer at Shan King Estate during the chasing operation. Following investigation, Police found that the man had also involved in a case of dangerous driving in Yuen Long occurred on July 9, 2011.

     The man was later charged with 12 counts of offences, including dangerous driving, criminal damage, driving while disqualified, using vehicle without third party insurance, wilfully obstructing a police officer, dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm and possession of dangerous drug.

     He pleaded guilty to all charges and the sentence is handed down today.

     Police would continue the efforts to road safety and combat any illegal driving behaviour.
