JOBS GO-GO-GOAL to help secondary school graduates in double-cohort year plan for future
******************************************************

The Labour Department (LD) will today (May 10) launch JOBS GO-GO-GOAL, a special tailor-made service package catering for the pre-employment training and employment needs of Form Six and Form Seven graduates in the 2012 double-cohort year. Running until August, the service package will assist the graduates in finding the latest employment information, devising career plans and enhancing their employability.

A spokesperson for the department said today that JOBS GO-GO-GOAL is anticipated to benefit 24 000 participants through a series of diversified pre-employment training and employment services.

"The LD has solicited a large number of job vacancies suitable for graduates.  Graduates can browse the vacancies on the dedicated webpage of JOBS GO-GO-GOAL and apply for the jobs according to their interests and needs," the spokesperson said.

"We will provide details of the different types of job fairs organised by LD on the dedicated webpage, including:

* Job fairs for young people under the Youth Pre-employment Training Programme and Youth Work Experience and Training Scheme (YPTP&YWETS). Some of the posts offered are complemented with pre-employment training, after which trainees will undergo six to 12 months salaried on-the-job training.

* Recruitment days in LD Job Centres in different districts with employers of different industries offering on-the-spot job interviews, thus saving the graduates' time in job search.

* Large scale job fairs providing a wide variety of vacancies open to job seekers, many of which are suitable for graduates.

The spokesman added, "It is worth-noting that following the release of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination results on July 20, the LD will stage five consecutive recruitment days from July 23 to 27 at the Hong Kong East Job Centre and the two Recruitment Centres for the Catering Industry and the Retail Industry respectively to provide diversified job vacancies and convenient employment services.

"Moreover, Youth Employment Start (YES) will launch various career advisory and employment support programmes. These including career assessment and career consultation at YES, interactive dramas on appropriate interview skills and etiquette, celebrity experience-sharing sessions, as well as the Self-Employment Experience Day and support services for graduates interested in running a retail business.

"Graduates who would like to enter the employment market are encouraged to enroll in LD's YPTP&YWETS, which provides one-stop comprehensive pre-employment and on-the-job training without any pre-set quota," the spokesperson said.

The LD will also organise the Most Improved Trainee Award Ceremony 2012 cum concert in collaboration with Radio 2 of Radio Television Hong Kong as the highlight event of the "Solar Project 2012" in August 2012. In addition to a performance by a group of energetic singers, the event will showcase the improvements made by trainees after joining YPTP&YWETS, launch a new YPTP&YWETS programme year, and encourage graduates to reach for their dreams.

For further details of the events, please see the appendix. The latest information will be uploaded to the JOBS GO-GO-GOAL dedicated webpage at www.jobs.gov.hk/gogogoal. Enquiries on details can also be made on the LD's 24-hour hotline 2717 1771 (handled by the 1823 Call Centre).
