New summer uniforms for Hawker Control Officers and Foremen (with photos)
************************************************************

About 3,000 Hawker Control Officers (HCO) and Foremen of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) will present a fresh look to the public from Monday (May 7) with their new summer uniforms.

"The new uniforms feature an epaulette with rank markings making use of a different combination of stripes with embroidered insignia to replace the present epaulette or metal badge," an FEHD spokesman said.

"A standard design is adopted for the insignia for both grades but the colour of the insignia and stripes will be silver for the Hawker Control Officer grade and light blue for the Foreman grade," he said.

"The newly designed epaulette will help establish a clear and strong identity for the department and assist the staff in discharging their law enforcement duties.

"The different colours and combinations of the stripes of the new epaulette will also enable the public to identify the two grades as well as the different ranks within the respective grade more easily," the spokesman said.

The colour of the shirts of all Foreman grade staff will be standardised. Same as Senior Overseer and Overseer, Senior Foremen and Foremen will put on white shirts instead of the current blue ones.

"There is also a plan to replace some of their winter uniform items in winter 2012 with an aim to enhance their occupational safety and to better meet operational needs. Details will be announced nearer the time," the spokesman added.

This is the first major uniform review undertaken by the FEHD after the establishment of the department in 2000. In designing the new uniforms the views of staff representatives were taken into consideration, the spokesman said.
