************************************************************

The Transport Department (TD) has announced that private cars participating in Phase I of the "Ad Hoc Quota Trial Scheme for Cross Boundary Private Cars" can depart for the Mainland within the permitted Quota Validity Period starting from today (April 27).  As at 4pm today, 24 private cars granted ad hoc quotas had entered Guangdong Province via Shenzhen Bay Port.  The crossing arrangement was smooth.

"Phase I of the 'Ad Hoc Quota Trial Scheme for Cross Boundary Private Cars' allows Hong Kong private car owners to drive their private cars with five seats or less into Guangdong Province via Shenzhen Bay Port once for a stay of not more than seven days. The validity period of an ad hoc quota is five days. Private cars granted ad hoc quotas and not yet departed may use the quotas to cross the boundary in the coming four days," a spokesman said.

For details of the "Ad Hoc Quota for Cross Boundary Private Cars" and the application procedures, please visit the TD's website, www.td.gov.hk, or call its hotline 2804 2600.

To commemorate the commencement of the Scheme, the TD has arranged to give out a gift pack to participating private car owners at Shenzhen Bay Port on the first day of crossing.
