"Special Topics Report No. 59" on social statistics published
****************************************************

The "Special Topics Report No. 59" on social statistics was published by the Census and Statistics Department (C&SD) today (April 27).

The report contains the findings of a special enquiry on "Desire of economically inactive persons for taking up jobs if being offered suitable employment" which was conducted via the General Household Survey by C&SD during April to June 2011.

This enquiry targeted at persons aged 15 and over who were economically inactive at the time of enumeration but indicated their willingness to take up jobs if being offered suitable employment.  Information was collected on their socio-economic characteristics, their past working experience in Hong Kong where applicable and their preferred conditions in respect of the desired jobs.  The information helped to assess the likelihood of their entering/re-entering the labour market as a source of the potential labour supply, even though they were economically inactive at the time of enumeration.

The report includes findings of the above enquiry with some 20 statistical tables and charts.  Users can download the publication free of charge at the website of the C&SD (www.censtatd.gov.hk/products_and_services/products/publications/statistical_report/social_data/index.jsp).

Enquiries about the contents of the report can be directed to the General Household Survey Section (2) of C&SD (Tel.: 2887 5503 or e-mail: special-topics@censtatd.gov.hk).
