Making music requires emotion, creativity and technique. Learning to play a musical instrument through a comprehensive training course not only helps young people develop their musical talent, but also stimulates their creativity and enhances their interest in art.
The Instrumental Music Training Scheme, organised by the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, is now recruiting intermediate year-one and advanced year-one trainees for 2012-13. The deadline for applications is May 16.
With an annual enrollment of more than 4,500 trainees, from beginners to advanced level, the scheme provides training in string, wind and Chinese musical instruments, including the violin, viola, cello, double bass, harp, flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, dizi, erhu, pipa, sheng, zheng, suona, zhongruan and liuyeqin. The three-year intermediate and advanced courses are supplemented with musicianship and music theory training to provide trainees with a comprehensive course of learning.
Weekly one-hour group lessons are conducted in Cantonese at the Music Office's five music centres in Wan Chai, Kwun Tong, Mong Kok, Sha Tin and Tsuen Wan. Annual tuition fees of $2,585 for intermediate level and $3,410 for advanced level are payable in four installments. Young players aged from 7 to 19 are welcome to apply.
Leaflets and application forms are now available at all Music Office music centres or through the Music Office website at www.lcsd.gov.hk/CE/CulturalService/MusicOffice/en/events_2012_04_05.php . Qualified applicants will be invited to attend an audition in June and will be notified of audition results by mid-August, with training beginning in September.
