FS to visit Vietnam, Malaysia and Thailand

     The Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, will depart on Sunday (April 22) for visits to Vietnam, Malaysia and Thailand from next Monday (April 23) to Friday (April 27) to strengthen economic and trade ties between Hong Kong and these three countries.

     Mr Tsang will make his first stop at Hanoi, Vietnam, on April 23 and 24. He will meet senior officials there and speak at the Conference on Global Financial Economic Challenges 2012, which is jointly organised by Vietnam's Ministry of Finance, the Korea Asset Management Corporation and the Asian Development Bank.

     On the second leg of his trip Mr Tsang will visit Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on April 25. He will meet top officials and prominent financial figures and attend a luncheon organised by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) in Singapore and the Asian Strategy & Leadership Institute. He will also sign a Comprehensive Agreement for the Avoidance of Double Taxation between Hong Kong and Malaysia.

     On April 26, Mr Tsang will arrive in Bangkok, Thailand, for the last leg of his tour.  He will officiate at the gala premiere of the Hong Kong Film Festival 2012 on April 26 and attend a business luncheon organised by the HKETO and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council on April 27.

     Mr Tsang will return to Hong Kong on April 28.  In his absence, the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Professor K C Chan, will act as Financial Secretary.
