Transcript of remarks by CE-elect this afternoon
************************************************

Following is a transcript of remarks by the Chief Executive-elect, Mr C Y Leung, at the lobby of West Wing, Central Government Offices, today (April 2):

Chief Executive-elect: At my request, I shall meet with representatives of the banking sector, industry and the commerce sector today and the 11 major professional bodies in Hong Kong tomorrow. Firstly, I will further understand the needs of these sectors and the further development of their businesses in Hong Kong. More importantly, to help me prepare for the meeting that I shall request to take place in Beijing, making use of the opportunity or meeting in Beijing to receive the appointment from the Central Government, to pass on the request of the business sectors in Hong Kong, so that we could, as an international business and financial centre of the country, make the best use of the economic development of the country and also the support that the Central Government has pledged to give Hong Kong under CEPA, the National 12th Five-Year Plan and also the 36 sets of policies promulgated by Vice-Premier Li Keqiang during his visit to Hong Kong last August. This morning's meeting was at my request and the first such meeting, followed by the meeting in the afternoon with the five major chambers of commerce, business associations in Hong Kong, and followed by the meeting with the Coalition of Professional Services, which comprises 11 major professional bodies in Hong Kong.

Reporter: ... are you consensus building, are you fence mending, are you PR spinning? What is the point?

Chief Executive-elect: I try to achieve actual results for Hong Kong. I shall give this another push. As I expressed in my election manifesto, I shall beef up G-to-G efforts, the Government-to-Government efforts, the first G being Hong Kong Government. And I think it is important that Hong Kong Government plays its role, a more proactive role, before businesses from Hong Kong can conduct B-to-G negotiation and before we could actually face our customers on the Mainland and to actually do some B-to-C business. My Government and I shall do our level best to help our businesses to resolve all these issues.

Reporter: Thousands of people who marched yesterday don't have an association or a chamber. When will you take the opportunity to meet some of those people and would you take the opportunity while in Beijing to express the concerns of the demonstrators to Beijing?

Chief Executive-elect: I heard their messages and I am sure the Central Government has already heard their messages. I shall continue to reach out to all the sectors in Hong Kong, whatever their views are. I am sure there will be opportunity for such meetings. Thank you.
