The North American premiere of "Love in the Buff", the latest work by the Hong Kong film director Pang Ho-cheung, starring Miriam Yeung and Shawn Yue, was presented yesterday (March 26, Toronto time) at AMC Kennedy Commons in Toronto by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO), Toronto, the Asian Institute at the University of Toronto, and China Lion Film Distribution.

"Love in the Buff" was screened at the opening of the 36th Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF) last week.

Speaking at the screening ceremony, the Director of the HKETO in Toronto, Miss Gloria Lo, said that Hong Kong films have gained a high reputation internationally. Over the past decade, Hong Kong movies and film talents have won over 300 international awards, and Hong Kong ranks as one of the main global film production hubs. "The creative industry, including the film industry, is one of the six industries the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government has been promoting," Miss Lo said. "The Government supports small to medium-budget films through the Film Development Fund."

Miss Lo added that the HKIFF currently taking place in Hong Kong is an interactive venue for filmmakers, film professionals and filmgoers. It also serves as a platform for film industries in the Greater China region and Asia.

A question-and-answer session, hosted by film critic Miss Liz Braun of the Toronto Sun; and a director of the Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival, Miss Alice Shih, was held immediately after the screening.

"Love in the Buff" is a follow-up to the popular and critically acclaimed "Love in a Puff", released in 2010. It continues the love story between protagonists Jimmy Cheung and Cherie Yu (Shawn Yue and Miriam Yeung reprise their roles), who meet each other again while pursuing separate careers in Beijing. The film represents a glimpse of the current attitudes towards love and romance in Hong Kong and the Mainland today.

"Love in the Buff" will be publicly released in Toronto on March 30. In addition, "A Simple Life", an award-winning Hong Kong film directed by Ann Hui, will also be presented in Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary next month.
