Closing date for submissions for literary festival's "Literature and Film" competition extended
*****************************************************

One of the pre-festival competitions for the forthcoming 9th Hong Kong Literature Festival, the "Literature and Film" Short Video Competition, is now inviting entries. The deadline for applications has been extended to April 3. Secondary school students and other members of the public are welcome to join the competition to express affection through video images.

The 9th Hong Kong Literature Festival, organised by the Hong Kong Public Libraries (HKPL) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, will be held in June and July.

With new technology, expressions of feelings can also be communicated through video images. The "Literature and Film" Short Video Competition, which is being held again this year, aims to encourage participants to act as director, screenwriter or actor and use the video camera to explore literary work with new interpretations.

The short video competition comprises a secondary school category and an open category. It is now inviting participating teams to submit short video proposals, based on literary work by any local author, in 500 to 800 words in Chinese together with a short video three to eight minutes long. Participants have to express their opinions on the selected local literary work and provide a brief summary of the video in each proposal. The results will be announced in June.

In the secondary school student category, book coupons valued at $4,000, $3,000 and $2,000 will be awarded to the champion, the first runner-up and the second runner-up respectively, and $1,000 book coupons will be rewarded to three merit award winners. Cash rewards in the same amounts will be given to the winners in the open category.

An entry form in Chinese is now available at all public libraries or on the HKPL's website at www.hkpl.gov.hk/english/ext_act/ext_act_hklf/ext_act_hklf_9_com/9hklf_three_competitions.html. A series of events related to the 9th Hong Kong Literature Festival will be announced in due course.
