Entries invited for Endangered Species Protection Passport Holder Design Competition
***********************************************************

Members of the public are invited to take part in the Endangered Species Protection Passport Holder Design Competition, with entries being accepted from tomorrow (March 19) to May 31.

The competition is organised by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) and supported by the Hong Kong Society for Education in Art with an aim to convey messages of endangered species protection through the creative design of passport holders by the general public and students.

The competition comprises two categories: the secondary school section and the open section. Participants must submit a design of both the front and back covers of a passport holder to be drawn or printed on a piece of A4-size (210mm x 297mm) paper with a slogan or short message included. The entry should feature the theme of the protection of endangered flora and fauna, such as reminding tourists that the import and export of souvenirs of endangered species are subject to control, advocating sustainable use of wildlife resources, combating illegal trade in wild animals and plants and encouraging compliance with the requirements under the Protection of Endangered Species of Animals and Plants Ordinance.

"A champion, a first runner-up, a second runner-up and 10 outstanding awards will be selected for each category. An award for active participation will be given to the school with the highest number of submissions. Each winner will be awarded a certificate and a gift voucher. The winning entries will be considered for the production of plastic passport holders to be distributed to the public," an AFCD spokesman said.

Entry forms and details are available on the AFCD's website at www.cites.hk. For enquiries, please call 2150 6974 during office hours.

Entries with the completed forms for the open section should be submitted before May 31 by post or delivery to the Endangered Species Protection Division, AFCD, 5/F, Cheung Sha Wan Government Offices, 303 Cheung Sha Wan Road, Kowloon. Secondary student participants must submit their entries through their schools.

Results will be announced on the department's website in mid-June. Winners will be notified individually. The prize presentation ceremony will be held in July.
