United Nations Sanctions (Afghanistan) Regulation 2012 and United Nations Sanctions (Afghanistan) Regulation (Repeal) Regulation gazetted

     The Government today (March 16) gazetted the United Nations Sanctions (Afghanistan) Regulation 2012 (the Regulation) and the United Nations Sanctions (Afghanistan) Regulation (Repeal) Regulation (the Repeal Regulation). Both the Regulation and the Repeal Regulation will come into effect on March 23, 2012.  

     "The Regulation and the Repeal Regulation implement sanctions against Afghanistan imposed by the United Nations Security Council under Resolution 1988," a Government spokesman said.

     The sanctions under the Regulation include:

* Prohibition against the supply, sale, transfer or carriage of arms or related material to certain persons or entities;

* Prohibition against the provision of technical advice, assistance or training related to military activities in certain circumstances;

* Prohibition against making available to, or for the benefit of, certain persons or entities any funds or other financial assets or economic resources;

* Prohibition against dealing with funds or other financial assets or economic resources owned by or otherwise belonging to, or held by, certain persons or entities; and

* Prohibition against the entry into or transit through the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region by certain persons.
