Competition on noise mitigation and retaining structure designs for Tsuen Wan Bypass launched

     The competition "Weaving New City-Fabric - Call for Noise Mitigation/Retaining Structure Design for Tsuen Wan Bypass" opened today (March 15). Qualified professionals and the general public are invited to contribute ideas and concepts for the design of noise mitigation and retaining structures for the Tsuen Wan Bypass.
     
     The competition is promoted by the Civil Engineering and Development Department and co-organised by the Environmental Protection Department, Highways Department, the Hong Kong Institute of Architects, the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, the Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects and the Hong Kong Institute of Urban Design. Supporting organisations include the Kwai Tsing District Council and the Tsuen Wan District Council.

     The winning and finalist entries may be considered for adoption in the blueprints of future noise mitigation and retaining structures for the Tsuen Wan Bypass.

     The competition is divided into the Professional Group (noise mitigation design) and the Open Group (retaining structure design). The Professional Group is open to qualified professionals in the fields of architecture, engineering, landscape architecture, planning, urban design and surveying. The Open Group is open to members of the public aged 18 or above. A multi-disciplinary Jury Panel will be formed to assess the entries.

     One winning entry and three finalist entries will be selected for each group. Competition prizes are as follows:

Professional Group

Winning entry: $360,000
Three finalist entries: $120,000 each

Open Group
----------
Winning entry: $80,000
Three finalist entries: $35,000 each

     Competition details and entry forms are available on the competition website (www.twbnoisemitigation-design.hk). Registration for the competition will close on April 12. Interested participants should register by submitting a completed entry form by email to registration@twbnoisemitigation-design.hk. Entries should reach the Civil Engineering and Development Department (25/F, Tsuen Wan Government Offices, 38 Sai Lau Kok Road, Tsuen Wan) either by post or by hand between May 15 and May 21. Results of the competition will be announced in an award ceremony to be held in August and posted on the competition website. The entries will be available for public viewing in a roving exhibition.
