Applicants for government vacancies advised to be alert to suspicious emails
***********************************************************

The Civil Service Bureau (CSB) has recently received a report of suspicious email requesting applicants for civil service vacancies to provide their personal information.

A CSB spokesman said today (March 8) that the bureau had not issued the email and, after investigation, the email was confirmed to be fraudulent.

The spokesman reminded members of the public to stay on the alert when receiving such emails, adding that the case has been reported to the Police.

"Anyone interested in applying for any particular vacancy should follow the application procedures as specified in the recruitment advertisements. To safeguard their personal data privacy, applicants are reminded not to submit their personal data other than through the channels as specified in the recruitment advertisements," the spokesman said.

In case of doubt, applicants are advised to contact the respective recruiting departments or bureaux.

Members of the public should be cautious in releasing their personal information and, as a general precaution, should take the following preventive measures:

* Do not respond to suspicious emails.
* Do not click on links or open any attachments in suspicious emails.
* Report suspicious emails received or suspicious websites to the Police and relevant departments/bureaux.
