Tin Fu Tsai North Section Mountain Bike Trail in Tai Lam Country Park opens (with photos)
*********************************************************

The Tin Fu Tsai North Section Mountain Bike Trail in Tai Lam Country Park will be open to cycling enthusiasts from tomorrow (March 4).

The new mountain bike trail is 2.1 kilometres long and is connected to the existing Twisk Section Mountain Bike Trail. Designed by specialists from the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA), 1.4km of the new mountain bike trail is made with a natural soil surface and is designed and built in accordance with the principles for sustainable trails promoted by the IMBA. The trail is suitable for cyclists with a certain level of mountain biking skills.

Sixty-six volunteers from various mountain biking and hiking groups participated in four volunteer days for trail-building organised by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) in January. Under the guidance of the specialists from the IMBA, the volunteers built some 350 metres of the new trail together with AFCD staff.

A new mountain bike facility was set up by the AFCD at the trailhead of the Ho Pui Section Mountain Bike Trail in Tai Lam Country Park last year. The facility consists of a 200m Green Practice Loop (for beginners) and a 200m Blue Escape Route (for riders with an intermediate skill level).

Details of mountain biking trails are available at the AFCD's website: www.afcd.gov.hk/english/country/cou_vis/cou_vis_mou/cou_vis_mou.html

Those interested in cycling on the new trail and other designated mountain bike trails in country parks should apply for a cycling permit in advance. Application forms are available at the AFCD's website. Permits are free of charge. Cyclists should observe the code of practice for mountain biking in country parks, and ensure the safety of themselves and other country park users.
