The FLU will seek to enhance co-operation between Hong Kong and the Haixi Economic Zone on various fronts, and assist Hong Kong businesses in seizing new development opportunities in the Haixi Economic Zone."

He said, "Hong Kong is an international financial, trade and shipping centre with unique advantages including a sound and fair legal system, good intellectual property protection, free flow of information, advanced telecommunications infrastructure and availability of professionals and talents. With all these enduring advantages, Hong Kong is able to provide support services to enterprises in the Haixi Economic Zone to make use of Hong Kong as a platform to 'go global'."

Various promotional events in Xiamen were jointly organised by the GDETO and the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office (HKMAO) of Fujian Provincial People's Government, and co-organised by HKMAO of Xiamen Municipal People's Government, including an investment promotion seminar titled "Hong Kong - Your Platform to Go Global", and a photo exhibition to promote, among other things, Hong Kong as Asia's world city.
