***********************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Committee for Pacific Economic Cooperation:

The Hong Kong Committee for Pacific Economic Cooperation (HKCPEC) and the Trade and Industry Department (TID) will jointly hold a seminar titled "Changing Global Landscape ¡V Tailing Effect of the Financial Crisis from a Regional Economic Cooperation Perspective" on March 6 (Tuesday).

The downgrading of the USA's sovereign debt rating in August last year caught many by surprise as this was the first time the USA had lost its triple-A status.      The speakers include Head (Economic Research) of Research Department of Hong Kong Monetary Authority, Dr Lillian Cheung; Head of Research, East, Global Research of Standard Chartered Bank, Mr Nicholas Kwan; Principal Economist of Office of Regional Economic Integration of the Asian Development Bank, Dr Song Lei-lei; Professor of Economics and Director, Centre for Public Policy Studies of Lingnan University, Professor Ho Lok-sang; and Chairman of Shinhint Acoustic Link Holdings Limited, Mr Jacky Cheung. The Chairman of the HKCPEC, Professor Sung Yun-wing, will give welcoming and closing remarks.

The seminar will be held from 8.45am to 12.30pm at the South Pacific Hotel, 23 Morrison Hill Road, Wan Chai. It will be conducted in English. Admission is free.
