New information dissemination mechanism for Daya Bay nuclear power stations at work
************************************************************

In implementing a new information dissemination mechanism aimed at enhancing its transparency, an operational event at Ling Ao Nuclear Power Station (LNPS) was reported on January 30 (Monday) at the website of Daya Bay Nuclear Power Operating and Management Co Ltd (DNMC), a spokesperson for the Security Bureau said today (January 31).  The event was classified as a "Level 0" event on the International Nuclear Event Scale which means it had no safety significance.

The Hong Kong Observatory and Water Supplies Department recorded no abnormal radioactivity readings in the air and water of Hong Kong during their routine monitoring.  Assessment by Electrical and Mechanical Services Department also suggested that the event did not have any safety implication.

The new information dissemination mechanism is a move of DNMC to enhance the transparency of the nuclear power stations at Daya Bay, whereby news pertaining to the operation and safety issues of both the Guangdong Nuclear Power Station (GNPS) and LNPS would be added to the "company news" and "nuclear and radiation safety information" sections on the website of DNMC (www.dnmc.com.cn) for information of the general public.  In addition, news related to GNPS would also be posted on the website of Hong Kong Nuclear Investment Co Ltd (www.hknuclear.com).  To facilitate access by the public, links to these web pages are also available at the website of Daya Bay Contingency Plan (www.sb.gov.hk/eng/emergency/dbcp/index.htm).
