Water bill payment network to cover more than 1,000 convenience stores
****************************************************

Paying your water bill is about to become even easier, as the bill payment network will cover more than 1,000 convenience stores across the city from February 1.

A government spokesman said today (January 31) that starting from February 1 members of the public will be able to pay their water bills in cash at 7-Eleven Convenience Stores, Circle K Convenience Stores, VanGO Convenience Stores and China Resources Vanguard Supermarkets in Hong Kong. The maximum limit for each transaction is $5,000.

The spokesman added that after paying their bill the public should carefully check the details on the receipt, including the charge number as well as the date, time and amount of payment, and keep the receipt for record.

The public can still pay water bills at the 126 post offices or Water Supplies Department's Customer Enquiry Centre in Mong Kok in person. They can also pay through autopay, online banking service, automatic teller machines, PPS (by phone or Internet) or by post.

The spokesman said, "Collecting payment through convenience stores is a new government initiative. We will roll out this new initiative to cover the Water Supplies Department's water bill payment on a pilot basis. Subject to the smooth operation of the new bill payment service, we will extend it by phases to cover other government bill payments, including government rates and rent."

Further details about the expanded water bill payment network will be available at www.wsd.gov.hk with effect from February 1. For enquiries, please call 2824 5000.
