Identification labels for cross-boundary hire cars to be required from February 1 (with photo)
*********************************************************

The Transport Department (TD) announced today (January 30) that to help passengers identify authorised cross-boundary hire car services, agreement has been reached between the Hong Kong and Guangdong governments to require private service (limousine) (cross-boundary service) hire cars (named as cross-boundary hire cars below) to display a set of identification labels from February 1 onwards.

A TD spokesman said, "The new measure aims to protect the interests of passengers and to raise their awareness of choosing the authorised cross-boundary hire car service."

A green label and a yellow label should be displayed at the front windscreen and the rear of the vehicle respectively for easy identification. The pair of identification labels will bear the wording "Cross Boundary Hire Car" in both Chinese and English as well as a serial number designated to the vehicle.

"The arrangement will enable the cross-boundary passengers to differentiate and choose the authorised hire car service," the TD spokesman added.

The TD advised that passengers who intend to hire the cross-boundary hire car service for travelling between the Mainland and Hong Kong should make use of the authorised cross-boundary hire cars bearing the identification labels.
