Special traffic and transport arrangements in Wan Chai and Central for public procession on January 15

     The Transport Department (TD) today (January 12) reminded the public that special traffic and transport arrangements would be implemented in Causeway Bay, Wan Chai and Admiralty from about 2.30pm on Sunday (January 15) to facilitate the holding of a public procession.

     The public procession will start from Victoria Park at about 3.30pm and will take a route along Gloucester Road slip road, Sugar Street westbound, Yee Wo Street westbound, Hennessy Road westbound, Fleming Road northbound, Fleming Road flyover northbound, Fleming Road northbound, Convention Avenue westbound, Fenwick Pier Street westbound, Lung Wui Road westbound and Tim Mei Avenue southbound, before finally arriving at the new Central Government Offices in Tamar.

     The special traffic and transport arrangements will mainly include:

Road closure
------------

Phase I

     The following roads will be closed from about 2.30pm:

1. The U-turn slip road between Gloucester Road southbound and northbound;
2. Sugar Street;
3. Great George Street;
4. Paterson Street;
5. Kingston Street;
6. The section of Gloucester Road southbound between Victoria Park Road flyover and Causeway Road (if necessary);
7. Cleveland Street;
8. Jardine's Bazaar;
9. Tang Lung Street; and
10. The section of Canal Road East between Hennessy Road and Russell Street.

Phase II

     The following roads will be closed from about 3pm:

1. Irving Street (except vehicles heading for Regal Hong Kong Hotel);
2. The section of Yee Wo Street westbound between Pennington Street and Hennessy Road;
3. The section of Yun Ping Road between Kai Chiu Road and Pak Sha Road;
4. Kai Chiu Road;
5. The section of Lee Garden Road between Kai Chiu Road and Hennessy Road;
6. The section of Hennessy Road westbound between Yee Wo Street and Percival Street;
7. Fleming Road flyover; and
8. Convention Avenue westbound, Fenwick Pier Street westbound, Lung Wui Road westbound and the section of Hennessy Road westbound between Percival Street and Fleming Road will be intermittently closed.

Public transport services
-------------------------

(a) A total of 47 bus routes and one green minibus route operating in the affected areas will be temporarily diverted. All bus stops along the procession route will be suspended. Public transport operators will arrange publicity to inform passengers of the temporary arrangements.

(b) The green minibus stand at Tang Lung Street will be temporarily suspended.

Closure of carparks
-------------------

     All carparks along Hennessy Road westbound may be closed at short notice if necessary.

     Members of the public who plan to go to the affected areas are advised to use public transport services as far as possible. Motorists should avoid driving to the affected areas. In case of traffic congestion, motorists should exercise tolerance and patience, and take heed of the directions of the Police in the affected areas.

     The TD and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation and implement appropriate measures whenever necessary. Motorists and members of the public should pay attention to the latest traffic news on radio and television stations.
