Hohenstein Institute opens textile testing services in Hong Kong
************************************************************

German research and testing firm, the Hohenstein Institute, has opened a state-of-the-art laboratory in Hong Kong to cater to increased demand for higher quality materials to add value to textile products. The laboratory opened at Hong Kong Science Park today (December 9).

Founded in 1946, the Hohenstein Institute is a global organisation which acts as a centre of expertise for research, development, testing and certification of textile materials and products, as well as onsite inspection of production facilities. The setting up of its Hong Kong subsidiary company is an attempt by the Institute to meet customer demand for additional laboratory resources in Asia.

Managing Director of Hohenstein Laboratories (HK) Ltd, Dr Manfred Hirning, said, "Hong Kong has a strong research and development base in textile and clothing technologies. Local universities and technology-support organisations like the Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University have successfully completed many projects that have brought enormous benefits to the local industry. That is why we chose Hong Kong to establish our subsidiary company.

"We are very happy to have found the right location for our subsidiary company at Hong Kong Science Park. It is one of the largest and most advanced technology hubs of its kind in Greater China and Asia, with sophisticated infrastructure, easy accessibility, a friendly environment and professional expertise making it a premium location," Dr Hirning continued.

Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion at Invest Hong Kong, Mr Andrew Davis, welcomed the Hohenstein Institute for establishing a facility in Hong Kong and said, "The Hong Kong Government is committed to developing Hong Kong into a testing and certification hub in the region by reinforcing the 'Tested in Hong Kong. Certified in Hong Kong.' branding. This is, therefore, the ideal time for foreign companies to expand their testing, inspection and certification operations to Hong Kong to capitalise on the expected growth in the sector."

Mr Davis added, "We wish the Hohenstein Institute every success in Hong Kong and we look forward to continuing our support for its future expansion in our city."

Starting a business in Hong Kong, for companies large and small, has been further facilitated with the launch of the Government's electronic incorporation service in March 2011. The time required for company incorporation and business registration has now been significantly reduced from four working days to one.
