SJ visits Seoul and Tokyo (with photo)

     The Secretary for Justice, Mr Wong Yan Lung, SC, departed Hong Kong this morning (December 7) for a three-day visit to Seoul and Tokyo to strengthen ties with counterparts and the legal community in both places. He will also promote Hong Kong as a premier legal services and dispute resolution centre in the region.

     While in Seoul, Mr Wong will meet with the Korean Minister of Justice, Mr Kwon Jae-jin; the Chinese Ambassador to Korea, Mr Zhang Xinsen; and representatives of the Korean Bar Association.

     He will also address an audience of businessmen, lawyers, arbitrators and academics with a keynote speech entitled "The Role of Hong Kong as East Asia Rises - A Legal Perspective".

     In Tokyo, Mr Wong will call on the Japanese Minister of Justice, Mr Hideo Hiraoka. He will also have exchanges with representatives of the Japan Commercial Arbitration Association and law professors of Waseda University and the University of Tokyo.

     Mr Wong will return to Hong Kong on Friday (December 9).
