REO response to allegation on duplicate voter registration records
***********************************************************

In response to press enquiries on media reports today (November 30) alleging that some registered electors have duplicate voter registration records, a spokesman for the Registration and Electoral Office gave the following response:

"People who are eligible to register as electors must provide their name, Hong Kong Identity Card number and other registration particulars on the voter registration form.  The voter registration system has a mechanism to prevent an elector from registering for more than once with the same Hong Kong Identity Card number.  The same elector therefore cannot make duplicate registration.

On the allegation that some electors in the North District have made duplicate registration, the Registration and Electoral Office has conducted a preliminary check and no elector is found to have duplicate registration records."
