The Hospital Authority (HA) today (November 24) submitted the first batch of applications by non-local doctors for limited registration to serve in public hospitals to the Medical Council of Hong Kong (MCHK).
The HA spokesman said, "At the second meeting of the HA Task Force of Limited Registration Scheme held on November 15, members finalised the submissions of 10 doctors who graduated from non-local medical schools and have applied to work in public hospitals under limited registration.
"The 10 doctors were among the 29 applicants assessed to be eligible for the recruitment exercise, passing the screening by the respective specialty panels, vetted further by the Task Force and considered suitable for appointment after interviews by user departments."
All the applicants have passed a specialist training examination overseas that is comparable to the Intermediate Examinations of the constituent Colleges of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine, and have post-internship experience of three years or above. They all have a licence to practise in their respective countries.
Today, the HA submitted to the MCHK the applications of nine applicants who are being recommended for appointment in three specialties, namely anaesthesia, medicine and emergency medicine. The remaining application will be submitted shortly when all the appropriate documents are received.
"The HA respects the statutory and professional role of the MCHK in assessing the credentials of medical professionals and looks forward to the favourable consideration of the MCHK for the applications. If approved, the doctors can provide services and help relieve the work pressure in the respective clinical departments," the spokesman remarked.
