Improvement works at Lok Ma Chau Control Point to start November 21
********************************************************

Planned improvement works at Lok Ma Chau Passenger Clearance Building will commence next Monday (November 21) and are targeted for completion in 2013. The work will more than double the number of e-Channels from the current 20 to 43, while the facilities of the Immigration Department, Customs and Excise Department and Department of Health will be upgraded.

The first phase of this project (southbound) will begin next Monday and is expected to be completed in 2012. The second phase (northbound) will follow thereafter. Lok Ma Chau Control Point will remain open during the construction period. With a view to minimising inconvenience to cross-boundary passengers, close contact will be maintained with stakeholders and the Mainland authorities, and mitigating measures will be adopted as necessary.

During the construction period, some clearance counters/e-Channels will be dismantled and re-constructed. The Immigration Department will monitor the situation carefully and deploy extra resources or operate additional counters flexibly to meet demand.

Cross-boundary travellers are advised to avoid using Lok Ma Chau Control Point for boundary crossing at peak hours. Passengers should plan their trips well in advance and check the latest traffic conditions through.
