Transcript of remarks by Acting CE (with video)
***********************************************

Following is a transcript of remarks by the Acting Chief Executive, Mr Stephen Lam, at a media session after attending a meeting of the Executive Council today (November 8):

I understand that you're all very concerned about the results of the District Council Elections. As regards the 2011 District Council Elections, the actual number of voters who participated and the turnout rate among voters, both exceeded the last occasion when we had District Council Elections in 2007. In this regard this is a positive development.

On the part of political parties and candidates I understand that many of them have worked very hard in past years to secure support among members of the public and among voters. For those who take part in elections for political parties that joined this exercise it is of fundamental importance that we respect the views and the choice made by the people of Hong Kong. The people of Hong Kong have spoken. For political parties concerned and candidates concerned it is now very important that in the next few years, both within the District Councils and outside, we work together for the betterment of Hong Kong. And thus for the administration as a whole we will continue to try to secure cross-party support across the political spectrum in all 18 District Councils so that we stand the best possible chance of delivering the best possible services to the people of Hong Kong throughout our community.
