Executive Director of Urban Renewal Authority re-appointed
**********************************************************

The Chief Executive has re-appointed Mr Calvin Lam Che-leung as Executive Director (Operations and Project Control) of the Urban Renewal Authority (URA) for another term of three years with effect from November 11, a spokesman for the Development Bureau said today (November 1).

Mr Lam was first appointed Executive Director of the URA in November 2008. He deputises for the Managing Director of the URA in overseeing the URA redevelopment projects and two operational divisions of the URA, and is responsible for implementing the URA's rehabilitation initiatives.

"Mr Lam has made valuable contributions to the URA over the past three years in taking forward the redevelopment projects and co-ordinating the rehabilitation programme of the URA, including providing support to the Government's Operation Building Bright.

"Under the new Urban Renewal Strategy promulgated by the Government in February 2011, 'Rehabilitation' is one of the core businesses of the URA. On April 1, 2011, the URA and the Hong Kong Housing Society jointly developed and introduced the new one-stop Integrated Building Maintenance Assistance Scheme. It is expected that the number of applications to the scheme will be on the rise. In addition, the URA will soon be actively involved in supporting the Government's Mandatory Building Inspection Scheme and Mandatory Window Inspection Scheme by providing assistance to the property owners.

"Given his expertise and experience, we have every confidence that Mr Lam will continue to provide strong support to the URA in delivering on the new initiatives under the new Urban Renewal Strategy, including the hectic schedule on the 'Rehabilitation' front," the spokesman said.
