CE to visit US and attend APEC meeting in Hawaii

     The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, will attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2011 CEO Summit and APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Honolulu, Hawaii, from November 11 to 13. En route, he will visit three cities in the United States from November 7 to 10 and meet with American political and business leaders.

     While in New York on November 7 and 8, Mr Tsang will address a reception hosted by the Council on Foreign Relations and attend a breakfast meeting hosted by the New York Stock Exchange. He will depart on November 8 for Boston, where he will deliver a speech at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government.

     While in Washington, DC, on November 9 and 10, the Chief Executive will call on the Deputy Secretary of State, Mr William Burns, and meet with the Chairman of the Senate Republican Policy Committee, Mr John Thune, and the Senate Majority Whip, Mr Dick Durbin. He will address a luncheon hosted by the Brookings Institution and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office on November 9, and will attend working breakfasts hosted by the Heritage Foundation and the Business Roundtable on November 9 and 10 respectively.

     Mr Tsang will depart for Honolulu in the afternoon of November 10 to attend the APEC meetings.

     The Chief Executive will address the APEC CEO Summit on "Seeking Stability in an Unstable World" on November 11 and attend the APEC Economic Leaders Meeting on November 13 as well as participate in other APEC events.

     The theme of the meeting this year is "Toward a Seamless Regional Economy", with three specific priority areas, namely, strengthening regional economic integration and expanding trade, promoting green growth, and advancing regulatory coherence and co-operation.

     The Chief Executive will depart from Honolulu on November 14 and will arrive in Hong Kong in the evening of November 15.

     During Mr Tsang's absence, the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Stephen Lam, will be Acting Chief Executive.
