Top Japanese convention organiser Congress Corporation launches first Hong Kong subsidiary
*******************************************************

Congress Corporation, an industry leader in planning and managing large conventions, has established a Hong Kong subsidiary to meet anticipated growing demand in overseas markets. Congress Corporation is the first Japanese firm specialising in meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibition (MICE) services to establish a subsidiary in Hong Kong. The new subsidiary is Global Expo & MICE Management Co Ltd (GEMM).

Established in July 2011, GEMM focuses on four key areas: expo projects, in which Congress Corporation has established a solid reputation through events such as the Expo 2005 Aichi Japan and Expo 2010 Shanghai China; MICE events, including international conferences and exhibitions; management of tourist/cultural/MICE facilities; and organising scientific and cultural events.

The Managing Director of Congress Corporation, Mr Junji Yoshioka, said, "Many US and European MICE management companies already operate from bases in Hong Kong, creating a more mature and developed market than Japan's. But GEMM aims to thrive in this fiercely competitive environment by offering 'Japan-quality' services to attain the highest levels of customer satisfaction."

"Making the most of Hong Kong's geographical advantages, GEMM will be a key operational base to support customers in south China, ASEAN and the Middle East," Mr Yoshioka continued.

The Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion, Mr Andrew Davis, welcomed the subsidiary established in Hong Kong and said, "Hong Kong is located at the heart of Asia Pacific and next door to some of Asia's highest potential markets. China, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, Korea and the Philippines are in the same time zone as Hong Kong. The city is an ideal strategic location for overseas companies running their regional operations in Hong Kong.

"We are delighted to have Congress Corporation establishing a subsidiary in Hong Kong. We wish it every success and look forward to continuing our support for its future expansion in our city."

Starting a business in Hong Kong, for companies large and small, has been further facilitated with the launch of the Government's electronic incorporation service in March 2011. The time required for company incorporation and business registration has now been significantly reduced from four working days to one.
