To promote Hong Kong's reputation as the region's creative capital, Create Hong Kong (CreateHK) has provided funding support to hold two new projects in Hong Kong, namely the "Fashion Visionaries" exhibition and ACM SIGGRAPH Conference and Exhibition on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques in Asia 2011 (SIGGRAPH Asia 2011). The events will fully demonstrate the development of fashion design and computer graphics and interactive technologies in Hong Kong. They will be held later this year.

"Sponsoring the stage of signature creative events is one of our strategies in promoting the development of creative industries. We aim to help our creative talent demonstrate unlimited creativity to the public and overseas visitors, thereby enhancing the overall creative atmosphere in the community and reinforcing Hong Kong's position as Asia's creative capital," the Head of CreateHK, Mr Jerry Liu, said at a press briefing today (October 24).

Mr Liu noted that both events are representative in their respective creative fields. "Fashion Visionaries", an exhibition organised by Hong Kong Fashion Designers Association on the development of fashion design in Hong Kong, will feature works by renowned designers, movie art directors, fashion photographers, illustrators and upcoming designers. Photographs and information of fashion models will be displayed. The exhibition will be held at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum from November 5, 2011, to March 12, 2012. A series of educational activities will also be arranged to enhance public understanding of local fashion design, including six seminars targeting secondary students and the general public, and three workshops for primary students and their parents.

"This is the first attempt by the local fashion design industry to give a full picture of its past development by way of a retrospective exhibition. Apart from enhancing public understanding, it can recognise outstanding fashion design and increase the exposure of young talents," Mr Liu said.

SIGGRAPH Asia 2011 is one of the most important events on computer graphics and interactive technologies in Asia. A yearly event that takes place in different cities in Asia, it serves as an international platform for the industry to engage in exchanges and learn new technologies. The Hong Kong ACM SIGGRAPH Professional Chapter, with funding support from CreateHK, successfully won the bid to host the conference in Hong Kong for the first time. It will be held from December 12 to 15 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. About 9,000 visitors from 45 countries are expected to take part in the four-day conference and exhibition joined by more than 100 exhibitors, including some well-known companies in the trade.

CreateHK will provide funding to set up a pavilion to show the works of both local industry players and tertiary students with a view to demonstrating the edge Hong Kong enjoys in computer graphics and interactive technologies. In addition, CreateHK will sponsor over 3,000 conference passes for senior secondary and tertiary students taking relevant courses to let them get a glimpse of world-class works.

"Hong Kong has a rich pool of creative talents. CreateHK will continue to keep in close contact with different creative sectors and support them to organise events of different forms to promote the development of creative industries," Mr Liu said. He noted that several creative events sponsored by CreateHK will be rolled out in the coming months, including the Business of Design Week 2011, a yearly flagship event in design sector, and the Hong Kong Creative Force Pavilion to be set up in the Inno Design Tech Expo 2011.
