Police facilitate public events on Hong Kong Island on October 9

     Police will implement special traffic arrangements in Eastern, Wan Chai and Central District to facilitate two public events to be held simultaneously on Sunday (October 9).

     Police have reached agreements after discussions with the event organisers on the procession routes of the two public events which will be held in North Point and from Wan Chai to Central respectively. As part of the routes will be used for the first time, all participants are advised to be orderly, exercise patience and take heed of the instructions of marshals of the organisers and the Police. As the traffic on Hong Kong Island will be affected in various extents, members of the public are advised to plan their trips in advance and make use of non-road based public transport services.

     For the public procession in North Point, it will depart at 3pm from King's Road Playground (Tin Chiu Street Exit) via Marble Road (westbound), Kam Hong Street (southbound), King's Road (westbound) and Shell Street (northbound) for the destination at Electric Road Sitting-out Area. The procession will finish at about 4pm.

     For the public procession in Wan Chai and Central, it will start from East Point Road Pedestrian Precinct at 3.15 pm and finish at the designated public activity area on the western pavement of Tim Mei Avenue at about 5pm, across Yee Wo Street, via Hennessy Road (westbound), across Queensway Road at the junction of Hennessy Road near Queen's Road East, northern pavement of Queensway Road (westbound), eastern pavement of Rodney Street (northbound), southbound Rodney Street (northbound), across Rodney Street, southern pavement of Harcourt Road (westbound) and Harcourt Road Footbridge to Central Government Complex (northbound), northern pavement of Harcourt Road (eastbound), and western pavement of Tim Mei Avenue (northbound).

     A number of major roads on Hong Kong Island will be closed in phases to facilitate the holding of the two processions.

     The following roads in North Point will be closed intermittently to all vehicular traffic during the period from 3 pm to 4 pm:

1. Marble Road westbound;
2. Kam Hong Street southbound;
3. A section of King's Road westbound between Kam Hong Street and Shell Street; and
4. Shell Street northbound.

     The following roads in Causeway Bay will be closed to all vehicular traffic from about 2pm onwards:

1. Jardine's Bazaar;
2. Tang Lung Street; and
3. Canal Road East between Hennessy Road and Russell Street.

     The following roads will be closed to all vehicular traffic from about 2.30 pm onwards:

1. Irving Street (except vehicles heading for Regal Hong Kong Hotel);
2. A section of Yee Wo Street westbound between Pennington Street and Hennessy Road;
3. A section of Yun Ping Road between Kai Chiu Road and Pak Sha Road;
4. Kai Chiu Road;
5. A section of Lee Garden Road between Kai Chiu Road and Hennessy Road;
6. A section of Hennessy Road westbound between Yee Wo Street and Lee Garden Road;
7. A section of Hennessy Road westbound west of Lee Garden Road and Queensway eastbound will be intermittently closed; and
8. A section of Rodney Street southbound between Harcourt Road and Drake Street.

     Depending on traffic and crowd conditions in the areas, Police may make appropriate adjustments to the time and areas of road closures. Besides, Police will be on site to direct traffic at major road junctions along the procession routes, including the junction of Hennessy Road and Percival Street, the junction of Hennessy Road and Tin Lok Lane, and the junction of Hennessy Road and Fleming Road to ensure the processions to be held in a safe and smooth manner and to minimise the inconvenience caused to other road users.

     Traffic in North Point, Causeway Bay, Wan Chai, Admiralty, Central, Aberdeen Tunnel and Cross Harbour Tunnel is expected to be affected to a certain extent with regard to the above road closure and traffic diversion arrangements on that day. More than 62 bus routes and five green minibus routes will also be diverted.

     Police appeal to participants of the public events to follow the instructions of marshals of the organisers and police officers. Motorists are advised to exercise patience and tolerance, and to take heed of the traffic arrangements along the procession routes and instructions of the Police. Members of the public should make use of non-road based public transport services, plan their journeys in advance and allow more travelling time to avoid delay.
