Residents of Kyushu, Japan, are invited to take part in the Hong Kong Food Festival in Fukuoka, during which quality and delicious Hong Kong food will be offered. The festival will last until the end of October.

To launch the festival, the Principal Hong Kong Economic and Trade Representative (Tokyo), Ms Sally Wong, hosted a lunch reception in Fukuoka city today (October 7). At the event, some 65 guests had a chance to have the first taste of the fine dishes specially designed for the festival.

Speaking at the reception, Ms Wong said Hong Kong and Kyushu have been maintaining very close bilateral ties, as reflected by the attendance of representatives from all prefectural governments in Kyushu at the reception.

"Fukuoka, where the festival is held, is one of the popular destinations of Hong Kong visitors. This is demonstrated by direct flights between the two cities and also the growing number of Kyushu ramen shops in Hong Kong," she said.

She said she hoped that all of the guests will, especially after tasting delicious dishes at the festival, be tempted to make an early trip to Hong Kong and discover many more exciting and appetising dishes in "the home of Chinese cooking".

Ms Wong also took the opportunity to introduce the latest economic developments in Hong Kong, adding that the city is not only a gourmets' paradise but also an international financial and business centre that offers numerous business opportunities to overseas investors.

The food festival in Fukuoka is the fourth and final round of a series of Hong Kong food festivals that the Hong Kong Tourism Board has organised in different cities in Japan this year.
