Operator and manager fined for unlicensed club operation
********************************************************

A man and a woman were fined $2,000 and $1,500 respectively at the Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts today (September 28) for contravening the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.

The courts heard that in May this year, the Office of the Licensing Authority (OLA) of the Home Affairs Department inspected a suspected unlicensed club in Ma Tau Wai Road, Hung Hom. During the investigation, OLA officers posed as customers and patronised the club for food and drinks. They later joined the club as members at the invitation of the club staff.

According to the OLA's record, the club did not possess a valid certificate of exemption or a licence on the day of inspection. The male operator and female manager were subsequently charged with contravening section 4(1) of the Ordinance.

A spokesman for the department said enforcement action would continue to be taken against unlicensed club operations.
