Ngau Chi Wan Park archery range opens for public bookings (with photos)
**********************************************************

Individual members of the public are now invited to make bookings for use of the archery range at Ngau Chi Wan Park in Wong Tai Sin to enjoy the fun of archery, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) announced today (September 28).

Situated on the east side of Fung Shing Street, this natural turf facility is the first archery range purposely built for archery activities under the LCSD.

The 5,500-square-metre archery range features 11 archery lanes at a shooting distance of up to 90 metres, which is suitable for organising training and tournaments. The covered corridor along the shooting line allows archery activities to be held on rainy days. In addition, floodlights are provided to facilitate use in the evening.

Individual archers may reserve sessions not taken up by block bookings from organisations within 30 days. They must ensure that an instructor with recognised qualifications is on-site to supervise the activities and the instructor's documentary proof has to be produced upon check-in. To promote the sport of archery, the LCSD will regularly organise training courses and fun days for public participation.

Bookings for use of the archery range can be made through four channels of the Leisure Link System, namely booking counters of the LCSD's leisure venues and District Leisure Services Offices, the Internet, telephone and Self-Service Kiosks.

Hire charges for one session (90 minutes) with or without floodlights are $468 and $300 respectively. A concessionary rate at 50 per cent of the normal rate is applicable to full-time students, senior citizens aged 60 or above and people with disabilities.

The archery range is open from 9.30am to 9.30pm daily. It will be temporarily closed for turf maintenance from 12.30pm to 1.30pm and from 6pm to 6.30pm every day, and for the whole day every Monday. For enquiries on bookings and training courses, please contact venue staff at 2354 9031.

Ngau Chi Wan Park is located at No. 71, Fung Shing Street, Ngau Chi Wan, Wong Tai Sin. Covering an area of about four hectares, the park is built on a restored landfill. Nature and greening are the themes of the park and its design embodies environmental protection features, such as natural ventilation and solar devices. In addition to the archery range, the park also provides a variety of active and passive facilities scattered over its four platforms.

The herb garden at the lower platform on the western side of the park is planted with about 30 species of herbs, such as Chinese privet, pomegranate, orange-jessamine and Rose of Sharon.

The rocky pool, the park's landmark, at the middle platform on the western side features sculptures of a family of five buffalos in different sizes and poses, alluding to the name of the village Ngau Chi Wan. Information on the naming of Ngau Chi Wan is on display on panels next to the rocky pool for visitors to learn more about the park's history and culture.

The park also offers a wide array of facilities including a maze garden, jogging tracks, fitness stations, a Tai Chi garden, elderly fitness corners, pebble walking trails, children's play areas and a basketball court to cater to the needs of different age groups. For more details, please visit the park's website at www.lcsd.gov.hk/parks/ncwp/en/index.php .

Ngau Chi Wan Park is open from 6.30am to 11pm daily and is easily accessible by public transport (bus routes 3M, 3P, 21, 606; public light bus routes 16A, 16B and 16S outside MTR Choi Hung Station). Fee-paying parking spaces are also available.
