The Government today (September 27) announced the following senior appointments:
(a) Mr Andy Chan Chor-kam, Deputy Director of Fire Services, will succeed Mr Gregory Lo Chun-hung as Director of Fire Services on October 1, 2011. Mr Lo will proceed on pre-retirement leave on the same day after 38 years of service with the Government; and
(b) Mr Leung Koon-kee, Deputy Director of Architectural Services, will succeed Mrs Marigold Lau Lai Siu-wan as Director of Architectural Services with effect from October 7, 2011. Mrs Lau will proceed on pre-retirement leave on the same day after 36 years of service with the Government.
Commenting on the appointments, the Secretary for the Civil Service, Miss Denise Yue, said, "The appointees have proven leadership and administrative skills, as well as profound professional knowledge and broad operational experience. I have every confidence that they will ably lead their respective departments to meet the challenges ahead."
On the retirement of Mr Lo, Miss Yue said, "Mr Lo has served with zeal and commitment in the civil service throughout the years. As the Director of Fire Services, Mr Lo has made commendable efforts in promoting fire safety, and enhancing the fire fighting and rescue capabilities of the Fire Services Department. We sincerely wish him a happy retirement."
On the retirement of Mrs Lau, Miss Yue said, "Mrs Lau has served with integrity, commitment and professionalism throughout her 36 years of public service. As Director of Architectural Services, Mrs Lau has maintained the high standard of public facilities and ensured their sustainable development through the provision of quality services and partnership with the construction industry. We sincerely wish her a happy retirement."
Brief biographical notes on the four officers are set out below:
Mr Gregory Lo Chun-hung

Aged 57, Mr Lo joined the Government as a Clerical Officer II in June 1973. He was then appointed as an Assistant Station Officer in the Fire Services Department in January 1975. He was promoted to Deputy Chief Fire Officer in February 2002 and to Chief Fire Officer in September 2004. He took up the post of Deputy Director of Fire Services in December 2005. He has been the Director of Fire Services since December 2007.
Mr Andy Chan Chor-kam

Aged 54, Mr Chan joined the Government as an Assistant Station Officer in April 1977. He was promoted to Deputy Chief Fire Officer in January 2003 and to Chief Fire Officer in December 2005. He has been the Deputy Director of Fire Services since December 2007.
Mrs Marigold Lau Lai Siu-wan

Aged 60, Mrs Lau joined the Government as an Architectural Graduate in September 1975, and was appointed as an Assistant Architect in October 1977. She was promoted to Chief Architect in March 1993, to Government Architect in April 1997, and to Deputy Director of Architectural Services in June 2006. She has been the Director of Architectural Services since July 2009.
Mr Leung Koon-kee

Aged 53, Mr Leung joined the Government as a Student Maintenance Surveyor in September 1980, and was appointed as an Assistant Maintenance Surveyor in July 1981. He was promoted to Chief Maintenance Surveyor in June 2001 and to Government Maintenance Surveyor in August 2007. He has been the Deputy Director of Architectural Services since July 2009.
